This morning while the kids were sleeping and I was finally able to have some time to work I turned on my Spotify and the song “From the Ground Up” by Dan + Shay came on. And I got to thinking about the concept of that….building things from the ground up. It’s kind of like the saying “Rome wasn’t built in a day.”
.
It has been my experience in my 34 short years here on this Earth that anything worth having takes time to build and nourish. It took me 8 years of college to earn a Doctorate degree. It took 2 years of dating before my husband proposed to me. It takes 10 months to create a human life. It takes lots of small choices day in and day out to gain those 10 lbs every year. You get the point. So WHY do we think that when we decide to make a change it should happen quickly? I don’t understand.
.
We have been made to think that instant gratification is the way to go. I mean just watch a few commercials! Ads telling you that a pill will help you lose 25 lbs, a magic cream will instantly regrow your hair, call this company and they will magically erase your debt, etc. It’s ridiculous!! It takes HARD WORK PEOPLE!!! If you want to change something in your life, like really change it and never go back to where you are now, you are going to have to do the work! Sorry but it’s the truth. There is no way in heck that I am going to lose all the weight I gained while pregnant with Harlyn in 1 month….it took me 10 months to gain it! But what I do know is that by showing up EVERY DAY I will lose it over time and keep it off. In the same way there is no way that Woody Herbert and I will get rid of over $80,000 of just student loan debt (yeah, it sucks!) in one year. It will take showing up with a budget EVERY MONTH until that number is 0.
.
My point is that every starts from the GROUND and builds UP to where they want to be with hard work and consistency. Is it easy? Not always. Is it worth it? ABSO-FREAKIN-LUTELY!!
XOXO,
Linnea
