Vision Boards: A Great Way to Visualize Your Dreams Daily!

Have you ever heard of a Vision Board? Until I became a Coach I had never heard of them.  A vision board is simply any kind of board (either physical or digital) where you save images that best represent what you want in your life. And not just the physical things, it also includes how you want to feel and what you desire to be. They are simple to make and can be extremely powerful. A Vision Board looks different for everyone but the main focus or goal behind them is for you to be able to visualize, daily, the things you want most in life and how you want to feel.

Last year, I bought a foam board from Dollar General and glued images onto it. This year, since my hands are a bit more full with 2 kids at home, I made a digital one using Pic Monkey. Both were fun and easy to make and took me 1-2 hours.  The biggest difference between the one I made last year and the one I made this year is that this time I gave my dreams a DEADLINE.

So, let’s back up for a second. Why should you even make a vision board?  Quite simply, to bring your dreams and desires TO LIFE.  What we focus on expands.  A vision board brings the Law of Attraction to life. According to the popular book The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, “The law of attraction is forming your entire life experience and it is doing that through your thoughts. When you are visualizing, you are emitting a powerful frequency out into the Universe.”  For example:

Jim Carey, after being booed off stage at an LA comedy club, wrote himself a check for $10 million and put in the notes “for acting services rendered.”  I’d say it worked out pretty well for him, wouldn’t you?  Ellen DeGeneres made a vision board with her on the cover of “O!” magazine.  There are countless other examples (just Google it!) as well.

Like I said above, the premise behind making a vision board is that what we focus on expands.  If every morning we wake up and see our dreams and can visualize ourselves accomplishing them it keeps us focused, positive and moving forward.  No matter what happens in your day, your vision board is there to remind you of where you intend to be.

How to get started:

STEP #1:  List out your goals in different areas of your life: relationships, health, career and finances, spiritual, travel, etc.  Get really specific here: think about how your life will be different when you achieve those goals.  How will you feel?  How will you look? Where will you live?

STEP #2: Gather your supplies.  If you’re using a digital method, gather images from the internet that you’d like to use.  If you’re going the old school paper-and-glue method, gather all of your supplies. I have used a piece of foam board from the dollar store, pictures, magazine clippings, markers and a glue stick.

STEP #3: Arrange your pictures, sayings etc in a way that appeals to you. There is no right or wrong way to do this! Just do it and have fun!

I’d love to see what you come up with!  Share your vision board in the comments!
